Detention Operations
Overview
Detention Deputies are under direct supervision of the Jail Administrator/Captain, or general supervision of the Sheriff or Undersheriff. They are responsible for maintaining a secure detention facility and the safe custody of inmates. They perform a variety of technical and administrative tasks associated with facility operations and the incarceration of prisoners. These tasks include but are not limited to supervising and control inmate behavior; exercising appropriate judgment in handling of special needs situations or inmates; performing searches of inmates, mail items, any object capable of concealing contraband or weapons, administering basic emergency first aid and supervising medical needs of inmates; intake and fingerprinting of inmates during book in procedure; maintain inmate property and storage; Collect, resolve and/or direct to appropriate individual or division, inmate complaints, grievances or requests; among many other job duties involving security and safety of the detention center.
