Jay in Line for Presidency of State Organization
August 15, 2011 – Members of the Oklahoma Sheriffs’ Association elected Beckham County Sheriff Scott Jay First Vice President during the group’s annual conference the week of August 01.
That puts Jay in line to become the OSA President next year.
Four members of the Beckham County Sheriff’s Office attended the OSA Conference: Under Sheriff Mike Bagzis, Captain Diana Bilbo, Lieutenant Lorna Pennington, and Sheriff Jay.
Another member of the staff at the Beckham County Sheriff’s Office, Kyrie Helling, won a $750 scholarship from the OSA to further her studies. Helling is a 2011 graduate from Merritt High School.
“The OSA only gave away five of these scholarships statewide, and Kyrie earned one of them,” Sheriff Scott Jay said. “I’m so proud of her.”
Jay likes to take his staff to events like this because he believes they help improve performance.
“We were able to tap into educational opportunities,” Jay said. “There were classes for Jail Administrators, Chaplains, Deputies, and Sheriffs.”
Vendors from across the country brought the latest in law enforcement technology to display, and they were able to network with officials from across the state.
“Opportunities like this are instrumental in maintaining a professional office. These events let my people learn and see how others effectively handle some of the same problems we deal with back home,” Jay said. “It was a great Conference.”
Sheriff Jay said this year’s Conference had the largest attendance in the OSA’s history.
